It’s good to have connections, and Tyler Bredehoeft has them. That – along with his strong resume – got him his new job as the head men’s basketball coach at Rock Valley College.

Bredehoeft replaces former RVC Head Basketball Coach Tim Sandquist, who left to become the head coach at NJCAA D2 Kirkwood Community College. RVC is coming off a 25-7 season and NJCAA DIII runner-up finish.

Last season, Bredehoeft served as an assistant coach at NCAA D2 Emporia State University under former RVC head coach Craig Doty. In one season at Emporia State, the Hornets doubled their conference wins and made the MIAA Conference Tournament for the first time since 2014. Emporia State also won its first conference tournament game since 2011.

Bredehoeft was involved in all facets of recruiting players, on-court coaching with the main focus on team defense, and player development. He was the community service coordinator, organizing 194 hours of community service for the Men’s Basketball program as well.

“I want to thank Athletic Director Darin Monroe and the rest of the search committee for the opportunity to lead the nen’s basketball program here at Rock Valley,” Bredehoeft said. “I also want to thank Craig Doty and Emporia State University, as well as Troy Brown and the University of Saint Mary,  two people that have given me guidance over the years to allow me to be ready to lead this program.

“I am excited and eager to get to Rockford and get to work.  RVC provides such a great opportunity for student-athletes to be successful on and off the court.  I look forward to continuing the success that the men’s basketball program has built over the years.”

Prior to Emporia State, Bredehoeft served as an assistant coach for the University of Saint Mary Spires from 2013 to 2018. In five seasons, the Spires posted a 95-57 record and a 62-38 conference record, while receiving votes and being ranked nationally in the NAIA DII polls during those seasons.

Bredehoeft served as the recruiting coordinator for the Spires from 2015 to 2018. He was also active in the program with a focus on player academics, strength and conditioning, player development, scouting, game preparation and on floor coaching.

Prior to his time at Saint Mary, Bredehoeft was the head coach for the boys’ basketball team at Tina-Avalon (Mo.) HS.

“We are thrilled to add Coach Bredehoeft to our staff here at Rock Valley College” Monroe said. “We had a very impressive group of candidates for this position, but Tyler comes highly recommended by those who understand our program and have a genuine interest in the continued success of RVC men’s basketball. I have no doubts that he will build upon the success our Men’s Basketball program has had in recent years.”

A native of Alma, Mo., Bredehoeft played two seasons at Concordia University where he earned All GPAC honors his freshman and sophomore years. He finished his player career at Central Methodist University where he helped the Eagles win a HAAC Championship and earn a national ranking of No. 11 in 2010. In his prep career at St. Paul Lutheran, he led his team to two consecutive district titles and an appearance in the state quarterfinals his senior year.

Bredehoeft graduated from Central Methodist University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in History-Education and graduated from the University of Saint Mary in 2015 with a Masters of Art in Education & completed the Sports Administration Master’s program in 2017.
