Starting this fall, LGBTQ+ history will be included in the Illinois students’ curriculum. They will be required to learn about historic moments made by individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or trans in Illinois and throughout the United States.

This new law will apply to ALL public schools in Illinois and supporters say it could teach kids how to treat each other. But those who oppose say the school districts should be allowed to set their own curriculum.

The Rockford Public School district says they have already begun teaching LGBTQ+ history but will adjust their lessons to meet the state requirements.
