The Chicago Bears used a familiar formula yesterday in Carolina which was have
your offense do just enough and rely on your defense to do the rest. Sprinkle in a
key special team play here and there and you have yet another close victory as the
Bears held on to defeat the Panthers 23-16 to improve to 5-1 on the season. Nick
Foles once again didn’t dazzle but he didn’t do anything to egregious either. Slow
and steady was his performance making a couple of key throws when he needed to
and adding a score on the ground. Foles on the day finished 23/39 for 198 yds with
a TD and a pick. Meanwhile the Bears defense forced 3 Panthers turnovers and
shut the door late on any chance of a game tying drive by the Panthers. Even kicker
Cairo Santos got in on the act with a 55 yd FG, a career best. The Bears now get
ready for a Monday Night Football matchup with the Rams out in LA.

Speaking of the Rams they were defeated by the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday
night football 24-16. Rams QB Jared Goff struggled in the contest completing just
50% of his passes. Elsewhere in the NFL yesterday Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers easily won the battle of the Bays defeating Aaron Rodgers and the
Packers 38-10. Brady wasn’t spectacular but he didn’t need to be as Aaron
Rodgers had his worst game of the season by far throwing for just 160 yds with no
TDs and 2 picks. It was the Packers first loss of the season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers still have not lost yet this season as they blew out the
Cleveland Browns yesterday 38-7. The Steelers defense picked off Browns QB
Baker Mayfield twice in the contest. The New York Jets remained winless on the
season as they were shutout by the Miami Dolphins yesterday 24-0. The Jets have
the inside track to the number 1 overall pick in next year’s draft.
