As retailers begin to market and sell COVID-19 At-Home test kits, the Illinois State Medical Society (ISMS) would like to remind patients that there is FREE testing available at multiple locations throughout the state. You can find information on locations hear you from the Illinois Department of Public Health by clicking here.

It’s important to remember that at-home testing is limited and may provide a false sense of security. A negative result today doesn’t make you immune tomorrow, nor does it mean you can forget about recommended public health precautions. Most importantly, if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, you should call your physician’s office for a medical evaluation.

If you test positive, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends isolating yourself from others at home and monitoring your symptoms. While most people experience mild symptoms, if you experience difficulty breathing or any other warning signs, please see emergency medical care immediately.

As a friendly reminder, to keep your family, friends and yourself safe; everyone should be practicing social distancing by staying at least six feet away from others not in their household. Individuals should be wearing a mask in public (when you cannot practice social distancing) and frequently washing their hands for at least twenty seconds with hot soap and water.
