The U.S. Capitol Christmas tree doesn’t just magically appear in Washington D.C., someone has to chop it down, load it on a truck, and drive it there.

As a holiday tradition, the tree will be met by Illinois State Police at the Illinois-Missouri Stateline around 1:15 pm, November 16th to make its way to our nation’s capital.

Every year, a different National Forest is selected to provide a tree to appear on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building for the holiday season. This year, the 2020 tree will come from the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests in Colorado!
