Whenever a team like the Chicago White Sox, who have been collecting prospects and draft picks for a few years, decides to trade one of those prospects for a proven veteran it is usually a sign that team is ready to win now. That exact scenario played out late last night as the White Sox sent pitching prospects Dane Dunning and Avery Weems to the Texas Rangers in exchange for veteran starting pitcher Lance Lynn. The move makes sense for the Sox as Lynn has just a year left on his deal and has been very good the past couple of seasons. Lynn also has experience playing under new manager Tony La Russa as Lynn was member of the St. Louis Cardinals back in 2011. Lynn is a reliable veteran who can eat up innings and slot in nicely in the number 3 or 4 slot in the Sox rotation.

Then earlier today the Sox made a bit of a head scratcher in signing former White Sox, outfielder Adam Eaton to a one year $7 million dollar deal. Eaton’s last stint in Chicago did not end well as he was basically run out of town as he was not well liked in the clubhouse at all. I know times have changed and people can change but why even risk having that kind of problem possibly bubble up in a young and up and coming team. It isn’t as if Eaton is even worth that type of risk as he is coming off one of his statistically worst seasons of his career. The one thing Eaton does have going for him is his gritty style may mesh well with new manager Tony La Russa. Meshing with the manager is one thing, meshing with your teammates is another.

The Sox may not be done making moves, but the moves that they have made thus far signify the rebuild is over and the time to win is now.
