Christmas is officially over. Ready to get that tree to get out of your house? Rock River Disposal is here to help. The waste management service will collect trees starting on January 4th from residents in Rockford on their normally scheduled pick-up times on garbage day. Rock River Disposal says this will continue until January 14th.

If you want to get rid of your tree, there are a few things you should know first.

  • Place non-bagged trees alongside regular garbage and make sure the tree is free of decorative materials such as ornaments, stands, lights, etc.
  • Trees that are over four feet in height should be cut in half.
  • You may also get rid of any yard waste during this time but it needs to be placed in two-ply biodegradable paper bags and not placed in the garbage cans. The reasoning is that yard waste may freeze in cans preventing removal.
  • If you have any loose branches and/or limbs, make sure they are bundled with string or twine and not a wire and place them out for collection (as long as the bundles’ don’t exceed 4 feet in length and 2 feet in diameter).
  • All of the bags, including cans and/or bundles, should not exceed 50 pounds by weight.
