On April 6, 2021, Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois (GSNI) announced its Our Girl Scout Gift initiative to provide 2022 Girl Scout membership fees for all new, previous, and returning Girl Scout members who join GSNI or renew their GSNI membership from April 6–May 12, 2021.
All Girl Scout membership fees are paid directly to Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) located in New York. Through Our Girl Scout Gift, GSNI will pay all GSNI membership fees to GSUSA on behalf of all new or returning girl and adult members who join or renew by May 12, 2021.
“We wanted a tangible way to thank our current members, their families, and our amazing volunteers for sticking with us during such a difficult time in our history,” says GSNI CEO Fiona Cummings. “So many families have been affected negatively by the pandemic, and we wanted to remove any financial barriers girls and their families may have to fully participate in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. If ever there was time to be a Girl Scout, to make the world a better place, we believe it’s now.”
Current GSNI Girl Scouts who renew their membership by May 12, 2021, through Our Girl Scout Gift will be able to return to their troops for the new year with a paid membership through September 30, 2022. Girl Scouts must follow the directions for taking advantage of Our Girl Scout Gift when renewing their membership at www.girlscoutsni.org/renew.
Our Girl Scout Gift is also open to new or previous GSNI Girl Scouts and their families! To have their girl and adult 2022 membership fees covered, families are encouraged to visit www.girlscoutsni.org/join and follow the directions to join before May 12, 2021, when the initiative ends. Girls who are new to Girl Scouts will be able to activate their membership right away with fun, local in-person and virtual Girl Scout activities and camping opportunities while making new friends with other girls their age!
Due to the time sensitive nature of the initiative, neither GSNI or GSUSA is able to offer refunds to any new, previous, or returning members who do not follow the instructions on how to take advantage of Our Girl Scout Gift listed at www.girlscoutsni.org/join or www.girlscoutsni.org/join by May 12, 2021.
