Shabbona Lake State Park, just miles west of Chicago, off US 30, is sporting some new faces. Jessica Letzter and her husband, Adam Honiotes, are the proud new concessionaires at the Lake. The Outpost Camp Store, Boondocks Bait and Boat Rental, and Pokanoka’s Restaurant have been revitalized under their ownership. Along with their new faces comes a new focus on the customer and their needs.

With plans for campfires, s’mores, and organized fun and games in the works, the couple has instituted much needed changes in all their stores. Focusing on the campers, The Outpost features those camping necessities that may have been forgotten, as well as foodstuffs, candies, gourmet ice cream scoops, and Honiotes Bros farm-raised meats. Boondocks is a premiere fishing equipment / bait establishment and rents pontoons, fishing boats, kayaks (single and tandem), rowboats, and paddleboards. You can purchase a fishing license and a tall, cool one while finding out where all those hidden fishing spots are located. Pokanoka’s menu has been revitalized and features lunch and dinner items as well as ice cream specialties either in the 60 seat, rustic restaurant or on the pergola-covered outdoor patio.

Both Jessica and Adam are excited about their new adventure and in learning the ropes of their new acquisitions. Both are no strangers to hard work and find the park and all the multi-tasking that goes along with it, as Jess says, “challenging, but I see all the people enjoying themselves and the outdoors, and you know it is really worth all the effort.” Both Adam and Jess invite everyone out to Shabbona Lake State Park – bring a fishing pole and a picnic basket and enjoy the outdoors.
