Here are today’s Nerd News! headlines:

Marvel’s Loki is getting a second season on Disney+. The series aired its Season 1 finale on Wednesday and there is definitely a door left wide open for wanting more, and it has been announced, we will get it. Tom Hiddleston, by the way, has stated that he would gladly play Loki for the rest of his life. We’d be ok with that.

Sad news for those hoping for a Joe Exotic movie. Amazon’s Tiger King project has officially been shelved. This means we will never see Nicolas Cage playing Joe Exotic. Cage blames Tiger King being old news. He said he read a couple of great scripts, but Amazon felt the material “had become past tense.”

“Space Jam: A New Legacy” hits theaters today, but critics aren’t really that impressed. Currently, LeBron James’ NBA/Warner Bros. sequel to the ’96 “Space Jam” has a “38% fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

  • “It feels like an ongoing corporate commercial/promotion for Warner Brothers. Rather than reach for the authenticity of the original, like most sequels, this movie is built on forgettable themes and overblown plot-lines.” (Cinema Tweets)
  • “They’ve taken two of the most dynamic and entertaining things on the entire planet and made them boring.” (I09.com)
  • “You’re generally right to worry when a film has six screenwriters, and the story is about as comprehensible as that suggests.” (The List)

The good reviews aren’t even that good.

  • “The central story about a father and son cuts through the excess, giving Space Jam a heart and a message that encourages staying true to oneself in the pursuit of passion.” (IGN Movies)
  • “There’s no real reason for this sequel/tribute to the original 1996 film to exist, but now that it does, there’s no reason to wish that it didn’t.” (Washington Post)
  • “Awkward garbage fluff…but it’s very entertaining awkward garbage fluff.” (Channel Awesome)
