The United States Postal Service finalized a plan to slow down some of its mail delivery starting Oct. 1 in an effort to provide a more reliable service and cut costs.

The mail that usually takes two or three days to arrive in your mailbox will now take up to five days to arrive. This is part of USPS’s new 10-year plan to address its $160 billion dollar debt.

The delays will affect pieces that have to go farther, coast-to-coast, or far reaches of the U.S.

Other parts of the plan include reducing post office hours, raising prices and hiking postage rates during the holidays, according to The Washington Post.
