ROCKFORD — CVS Health will close its pharmacy and convenience store on South Alpine Road on the last Saturday of the month.

Customers who have prescriptions at the store, 2454 S. Alpine Road, will have their medications automatically transferred to the location at State Street and Alpine Road or they can request a different store. The last day in business will be Feb. 26.

The closure comes following CVS Health’s announcement in November that it will reduce store density in some areas as it evaluates “changes in population, consumer buying patterns and future health needs.” The company said in a news release at the time that it would shutter 300 stores per year for the next three years, with most of those closures starting this spring.

“Our retail stores are fundamental to our strategy and who we are as a company,” Karen Lynch, president and CEO of CVS Health, said in the news release. “We remain focused on the competitive advantage provided by our presence in thousands of communities across the country, which complements our rapidly expanding digital presence.”
