ROCKFORD — Get ready for cuteness overload.

The Level III neonatal intensive care unit at Mercyhealth’s Javon Bea Hospital–Riverside is filled with some of the strongest, although tiniest, champs.

“The NICU staff loves to celebrate all of our babies’ accomplishments, so it seemed only fitting to celebrate them in true Olympic spirit,” the hospital said in a news release. “Our little Team USA is made of preemies who receive the gold standard of care from the most experienced care team in the region.”

Staff in the NICU, along with its Mother/Baby unit, helped kick off their own version of the opening ceremony of the winter Olympics this week and even participated in some Olympic games such as curling.
