ROCKFORD — The Rock River Valley Blood Center will soon have a new location for you to donate blood.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday for its new center at 418 N. Longwood St., across the parking lot from its Sixth Street location. The Sixth Street facility will be used for administrative purposes, lab work and storage space once the new center opens.

One of the new features will include a donor friendly layout that will allow for an easier registration process to enhance the donor experience.

The Rock River Valley Blood Center serves 13 hospitals in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. Its newest location is expected to open this summer.
