ROCKFORD — Winnebago County Animal Services put out a warning Monday that its shelter is at critical capacity with every kennel full and some doubled up.

Nearly 30 new pets, including 23 dogs, entered the shelter since Friday, Animal Services wrote on Facebook.

“There are over 70 dogs in the building and we have had to double up kennels giving dogs limited space,” Animal Services wrote on Facebook. “Our animal care staff and volunteers are tired, stressed, and heartbroken to have to put dogs in smaller kennels.”

The organization has lowered its adoption fee to $25 for select dogs and cats with the Bissell Pet Foundation paying the difference.
