ROCKTON — The Greater Rockton Center is going through multiple renovations that will culminate in a new sign and a new name.

The center, 302 W. Main St., is used for everything from community meetings to weddings, kids camps, gatherings for seniors and other special events.

Recent improvements included replacement of rooftop heating and air conditioning units, a new roof, exterior masonry improvements, the replacement of sidewalk and new landscaping. Next up are new Americans with Disabilities Act compliant bathrooms, an updated kitchen and the new sign and name, which will be Rockton Township Center.

On Friday, Winnebago County Board member Jim Webster presented a $25,000 check to Rockton Township to help pay for the more than $200,000 in improvements happening at the center.

The money comes from a portion of the $54.8 million in American Rescue Plan money allocated to Winnebago County. A portion of that money goes toward economic development initiatives in each County Board district.
