ROCKFORD — The average cost of a gallon of gas in the city jumped 14 cents per gallon in the past week after three consecutive weeks of decline, according to data from GasBuddy.

The average cost of a gallon of gas is $4.19, with the cheapest station in Rockford priced at $3.87 and the most expensive at $4.49, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 139 stations here.

Prices are 13 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and 72 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

The national average price of gasoline rose 6 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.78 today, according to GasBuddy. The national average is down 11 cents per gallon from a month ago, but it stands 38 cents per gallon higher than a year ago, according to data the tech company compiles from more than 150,000 stations across the country.

“Just over half of the nation’s 50 states saw gasoline prices rise last week, pulling the national average back up for the time being due to big jumps in the Great Lakes and continued increases in New England and mid-Atlantic states,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said in a news release.

The national average price of diesel is up 3 cents per gallon to $5.32 per gallon.

“National diesel supply remains tight, but supplies of diesel did see a slight rise last week,” De Haan said. “The majority of stations, especially away from the East Coast and Northeast, should have very few issues with diesel supply, though some stations in those regions could see diesel delivery times slip. Brief outages at a limited number of stations are possible, but with refineries continuing to churn out product and maintenance wrapping up, I’m optimistic the situation will improve.”
