ROCKFORD — A new group exhibition in the city reimagines an everyday object: a chair.

“Sit. Chairs as Art,” features the reinvention and interpretation of chairs from 26 artists at Kortman Gallery, 107 N. Main St., in downtown. The exhibit opens Friday and runs through Jan. 14.

“It compels you to apply your artistic skills often in different ways,” said participating artist and Rock Valley College professor Lynn Fischer-Carlson. “You want to participate in the theme without sacrificing your own aesthetic vision or style.”
