MACHESNEY PARK — A funeral procession on Tuesday will escort firefighter Brian Rehnberg past the Alpine Road station where he served before he’s taken to his final resting place.

Rehnberg, who served with the North Park Fire Protection District since November 2008, died shortly after his Christmas Day shift. He was 50 years old.

“The public is welcome and encouraged to pay their respects along the route if they wish,” the district said in a news release. “The outpouring of support and generosity from the community has been amazing. Thank you to everyone.”

The procession will depart at approximately 1:45 p.m. from the Indoor Sports Center on Riverside Boulevard and proceed west to Alpine Road. It will then head south on Alpine past the station where Rehnberg served. From there the procession will move east on to Spring Creek Road and then to Mulford Road before it ends at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 South Mulford Road, Rockford, where his final call will be dispatched.

Traffic delays should be expected due to the size and route of the procession.

The procession is proceeded by memorial services at Indoor Sports Center, 8800 E. Riverside Blvd., Loves Park. A visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with funeral services at 1 p.m.
