BELVIDERE — Summerfield Zoo, 3088 Florad Road, has announced its opening weekend for 2023.

The locally owned farm and zoo, which is home to mountain lions, zebra, lemurs, alligators, giant tortoises, sloths and other animals, will open April 22 and 23.

“We are excited to share our spring babies and new additions to the zoo,” said Rick Anderson, owner of Summerfield Zoo, in a news release. “Visitors can bottle feed the baby goats, meet our baby camel Bruno, baby miniature Sicilian donkeys, baby kunekune pigs, and baby porcupine. Spring means lots of new arrivals.”

Admission is $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for children. All proceeds go to the care of the animals, many of which are rescues.

The zoo specializes in up-close animal encounters for all ages. There are various presentations, a petting zoo, snack shop and The Flying Reindeer Gift Shop.
