ROCKFORD — Twisted Crypt Haunted House is back to deliver scares in the city for a 10th year.

The seasonal haunted house at 5420 E. State St., near the former Circuit City, delivers 10,000 square feet of chaos, gore, mystery, mazes and interactive show rooms with creepy costumed actors.

Opening night at Twisted Crypt is set for Sept. 15, and it will be open on weekends through Halloween.

The locally owned and operated Twisted Crypt Productions was founded in 2013 by Peter Dunn and Matt Johnson. The Boylan Catholic High School graduates were raised in Rockford and have shared a passion for creating Halloween scares since they were teenagers.

Twisted Crypt was named one of the state’s Top 10 haunted houses by HauntedIllinois.com in 2016, 2019 and 2021. It was also ranked in the Top 10 by visitors of HauntedIllinois.com in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022.

In 2019, HauntedHouseChicago.com awarded Twisted Crypt actor Amanda Powers the Jim Warfield Acting Award, which is given to the top haunted attraction actor in the Chicagoland area.

In 2022, Brianne Jankowski won the same award for her portrayal of Molly The Dolly.
